Greetings From Abroad! – Iceland
By nikkita | November 9, 2009
Today’s most addictive purchase: Icelandic licorice.

Trying to explain the amazingness that is Icelandic licorice to someone who has never had Icelandic licorice is impossible. They just don’t understand. So instead of wasting both of our times, let me just explain to you the lengths I go to preserve the fond memories of this stuff.
Apollo Lakrís is the way to go, in my opinion, when you’re looking to consume ridiculous, gluttonous amounts of shiny, tasty gifts, hand crafted by Zeus and all his friends. You see, while you can buy a pack of this in any store here, you can also buy the scraps by the kilo at the factory itself. Total cost? 500 kronur per kilo. In translation? That’s about $4.00 for 2.2 lbs. of licorice.
When it comes to me, this is the only way.
My teeth and my stomach are still yelling at me. I may or may not vomit what will look like the return of the bubonic plague. I may daze off for hours, staring at the ceiling, opium den style. Even worse, I may go buy more. This is what we call a relapse people. I am a lakrís addict.
… And I have no regrets.
