Fashion Robots
By nikkita | June 3, 2009

These fashion robots by the Tokyo based robot development company Flower Robotics may not only be a threat to the modeling pool, but to the entire world. Robot invasion anyone? Then again, while the thought of replacing runway models with a mechanical being is a bit unsettling, I’m intrigued about them being used as mannequins. Window and mannequin displays are pretty misleading as is, but imagine what kind of first impression you’d get by that oh so fancy jacket when you can actually watch it in motion versus it just being pinned to a stoic mannequin to the point it’s not even the same thing sold in the store. Now that kind of convenience I can dig.
Considering we’re dealing with robots here, it is no surprise that having one of these in your store will cost you. Just renting one within the Tokyo area will set you back $3,000+ while buying it will burn a hole big enough for $50k. In other words, this isn’t a toy. Except if you’re Saks On Fifth Avenue. Then yes, it is.
